Events

We offer a range of events and they are a great way to get involved and get first hand experience and knowledge. One of our main events are discovery days.

What is a discovery day?

4 in 10 girls say they don’t get enough practical experience. A discovery experience is a great way to see the infrastructure industry close up and get hands on experience in the fields of STEM RW or ACE. Often times they will include lunch and learns, field trips, dinners and other valuable networking opportunities. The main way we offer discovery days is through on site visits or interactive events with the buildgirls team.

Here are a few benefits of completing a discovery experience in high school:

You’ll learn more about a career (or careers), which can help you solidify your plans for the future. You gain hands-on experience that can be valuable for future employers. Being able to identify your strengths and weaknesses in a work environment will give you a jumpstart when it comes to your personal and professional development. Networking with employers and leaders in your career field of interest allows you to build valuable relationships that may jumpstart your career later. A Discovery Experience is impressive to not only future employers, but to colleges and universities as well. This shows that you’re motivated, dedicated, and genuinely interested in your chosen field.  Not every internship is perfect. At the very least, internships let you explore other career options and see how you react to different management styles.
